Spey & Switch Rods

Cover More Water. Chase Bigger Fish. Spend Less. There is a specific rhythm to two-handed casting that changes the way you view a river. Whether you are swinging intruders for winter steelhead in the PNW, skating bombers for Atlantic Salmon, or stripping streamers for big browns, a dedicated Spey rod is the ultimate tool for big water.

But breaking into the two-handed game shouldn’t require a second mortgage. At Recast Fly Fishing, we curate a selection of high-performance, premium used Spey and Switch rods from the industry’s most respected manufacturers—including Sage, G. Loomis, Hardy, Winston, and Burkheimer. Get the distance and line control you need at a fraction of the retail price.

Top-Tier Performance. Verified Quality. Spey rods are built to withstand immense torque, which is why quality matters. A "cheap" new rod often lacks the backbone to lift heavy sink tips or turn over massive flies.

  • The Smart Upgrade: Buying used allows you to fish a flagship rod model (often $1,000+ new) for the price of an entry-level stick.

  • Inspected for Action: Every rod in our quiver is hand-inspected to ensure the ferrules fit tight, the cork is solid, and the blank is ready to charge.

  • Ready for the Swing: From 11-foot Switch rods for tight quarters to 14-foot cannons for the Clearwater, we have the tools to match your casting style (Skagit or Scandi).

Finding the right two-handed rod

Not sure which rod is right for you? Generally, Switch Rods (10’–11’6”) are versatile tools perfect for smaller rivers or indicator fishing, while full Spey Rods (12’–14’+) are designed for maximum distance and mending control on large rivers.

  • 6-Weight Spey: Ideal for summer steelhead, large trout, and half-pounders.
  • 7-Weight Spey: The "do-it-all" tool for winter steelhead and salmon.
  • 8-Weight+: Heavy lifting for Chinook, big rivers, and the heaviest sink tips.
